The Top Three Things We Learned and Did Today:
  • Today was the grade 5/6 learning celebration.  They made old books new by making new stories.  They re-wrote the stories and glued them onto the books.  They also added texture to the pictures and sometimes they took black marker directly to the pages to change to illustration.
  • As we have arrived to the Sorting Hat chapter in the book, we did a quiz to see which Hogwart's house we will belong in.  We did one before and after recess.  Tomorrow our classroom will change and we will be sitting in our new houses.
  • In music, we worked on cutting different instruments from different families.  We will be gluing these onto paper.  The different instrument families are woodwinds, brass, percussion and strings.  We will be seeing these next week on our field trip.  Remember to bring back your forms.

What We Learned and Did Today for Fresh Air Friday:
  • In science, we made a wall with two heights and put boards on them to create a gentle slope and a steeper slope.  We developed the question, "Which slope will have more soil erosion?"  Ms. Jones put soil on the slope and when Ms. Smith put water down the slopes, we saw that the steeper one did.  Our conclusion was that the steeper slope had more erosion due to the angle of the slope and that the water went down it faster due to gravity.

  • The grade 5 and 6 students presented their science fair projects to the school.  Things we learned from their experiments were: the best toothpaste to whiten your teeth is Crest because it has blue covarine, which has a lot of fluoride; Huggies are the best diapers to prevent leaks because they absorb the most water and they take the longest time to leak; watering a plant every five days one tablespoon allowed the best growth of a basil plant.
