  • Fresh Air Friday tomorrow, please dress to be out in the weather
  • Volunteers needed for swimming, that starts next Thursday!  Three or four volunteers would be great! :) Please email Ms. Jones at sacjones@cbe.ab.ca if you can volunteer.
  • Save the date!  This Sunday June 3rd, nine aspen trees will be planted in our Nature ground.  Volunteers are still needed to help with digging.  Please let the Environment Committee know if you can help! We would really appreciate as many hands as we can get!
Top Three Things We Did and Learned Today:
  • We completed writing our second event and we started to type it out on the computer.  If we finished before recess, we had to highlight actions, thoughts/feelings, description and dialogue.
  • In social, Ms. Jones explained what cause (what people do) and effect is.  We found out India is quite poor, so they do not have a proper waste management system.  Mrs. Lysak also told us about how you have to take vaccinations six weeks before you go there so you don't get sick.
  • The grade 1/2s did a play for their learning celebration.  We learned that at one time, people were building and taking away the natural resources from Nose Hill.  This took away the animals homes.  At one point, people protested to make Nose Hill a protected park for the plants and animals to thrive along side with people.

Top Three Things We Did and Learned Today:
  • In math, we corrected our errors from yesterday's perimeter activity.  If we finished that, we had to create a design out of centimeter strips.  We will be trading these with a partner to see if they can measure the perimeter of it.
  • In science, we recorded our observations of the bean seeds we planted on Monday.  We drew and labeled a diagram/ picture, we measured the temperature and we noted its location.
  • In gym, we played a game where Ms. Jones rolled a four square ball across the field.  We were supposed to shoot and hit the ball with our tennis ball using our lacrosse sticks.

Top Three Things We Did and Learned Today:
  • We looked at an excellent example of an event written by a fellow classmate, and highlighted where they showed strong verbs, description and a character's thoughts and feelings.  We then went back to our own event and added 1 more of each element.
  • In music, we started writing a song.  Mr. O'Reilly stated that a song is like writing a story.  We had to come up with a setting and words to describe it.
  • In gym, we played a game with scoops called "Not In My Net".  We had to scoop a ball from the middle and carry it over to the other team's net.  Once there was no balls left to collect in the middle, we could scoop one ball from the net and carry to the other.

Top Three Things We Learned and Did Today:
  • A group presented their reader's theater presentation today.  It was very good because they used expression, different accents and howler monkey howls.
  • Today in social studies, we watched short videos about the children who go to school in India.  We learned that in some areas of India, girls go to school in the dark because they have to work for their families during the day.  Lots of them learn how to count numbers and they do a lot of learning through play.
  • In math, Ms. Cowdy taught us about perimeter.  We used Sponge Bob to measure, and we found out to measure perimeter, you add all the sides together.

Top Three Things We Learned and Did Today:
  • In gym, we started the lacrosse unit.  We practiced throwing and catching with a net, as well as scooping the ball from the ground.  If you would like to bring your own lacrosse stick from home you can.
  • Today in math, we reviewed how to properly use a ruler to measure different objects and lengths.
  • In art, we went outside and learned about perspective.  If things are closer you draw them bigger, if they are farther away you draw them smaller.  We also learned how to overlap drawings and about the horizon line.  We then practiced all these new concepts by drawing a landscape in the Whispering Woods and the amphitheater.
